When I was in middle school, there was a class called “Tech Ed.” It was basically a life skills class aimed at teaching us how to use tools and basic machines. The highlight of each year was getting to work in the shop and designing balsa wood cars for our class race. The entire sixth and seventh grade classes got to work with jigsaws, and drills, and sanders, and screwdrivers creating the ultimate speed machine.
Why am I telling you this? Because it’s important for you to know that I was banned from “the shop” within two weeks of setting foot in Tech Ed. After years of teaching pre-pubescent youth how to use a handsaw, my Tech Ed teacher spent 10 days with me and said, “No more. You can watch, but you can’t use the tools.”
I’m not gonna lie to you, it was the same story in Home Ec class too…eeshhhh…
Skilled crafts-person I am not. But thankfully, our community abounds with creative and talented people who would make my old teachers proud. Check out these fabulous Maker Moms and give them a follow this holiday season.

During the flower off-season, we offer fresh wreaths using native greens and dried flowers. Pressing flowers, a long time passion of mine, was refueled when a dear friend asked me to preserve her bridal bouquet, so here I am helping brides, grooms, & families preserve their floral pieces & memories.
